University Archives Collections: University Records: Records from each academic and/or administrative department are assigned a record group number, and corresponding inventories are available onsite in the Special Collections Reading Room. Typical types of records include correspondence, memos, reports, administrative files, and photographs. Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations: The University Archives maintains the archival copies of SIUC students' research papers, theses and dissertations. Holdings may be found by consulting the library’s online catalog, SIUCat. University Publications: The University Archives holds archival copies of SIUC publications including the Board of Trustee proceedings, the University yearbook, The Obelisk (1914-1986), and the University Bulletin. Reference copies of all of these are available for use onsite in the Special Collections Reading Room. The Archives also receives a copy of all reports, newsletters, minutes, directories, brochures, flyers, and other publications produced by the University’s office of Printing and Duplicating. Photographs: The photograph collection provides a visual history of the development of SIU from a teachers’ college to the research university it is today. Subjects documented include student life and activities, athletics, faculty and staff, campus buildings, and events. Vertical Files: The SIUC Vertical File contains SIUC-related newspaper clippings arranged by subject. The SIUC Ephemera File contains items such as programs, commencement announcements, memorial programs, and other items documenting the history of SIU. Access: All University Archives material
is non-circulating and must be used onsite in the reading room of the
Special Collections Research Center located in Morris
Library. Much of the material is kept in a remote location and requires
twenty-four hour notice. Please contact the archivist
in advance if you are planning a research trip to SIUC, or if you have
any questions about University records. |
