Ralph E. McCoy

Dean Emeritus of Library Affairs, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ralph McCoy was responsible for developing Morris Library into a major research library. As well, he led the way in establishing Lovejoy Library at SIU's Edwardsville campus, the Law Library at Carbondale, and the Medical Library at Springfield. He is a noted authority on First Amendment Freedoms, compiling and editing the three Freedom of the Press bibliographies published by the SIU Press. In addition, he edited with the late Robert Downs ALA's highly successful The First Freedom Today (1984). He also is compiler and editor of Open Court; A Centennial Bibliography (Open Court, 1984), and Theodore Schroeder; A Bibliography (SIU Library 1973). Dean McCoy and his wife Melba now are living in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he still pursues his many bibliographic interests.
